H I S T O R Y

Ryan was the first son of a normal family in Hong Kong, and expected to take over the family someday. However, around his 16th birthday, he began to have psychotic episodes in which he believed that his family was consipiring against him, especially his parents. He varied wildly from loving his sister to pieces and wanting to guard her to hating everything about her, and actually attempted to murder his parents a few times. His school life fell to pieces, and he spent most of his time locked in his bedroom.

A psychiatrist diagnosed the cause of the psychotic breaks as being paranoid schizophrenia, and prescribed a heavy regiment of antipsychotics that left him constantly twitchy (thanks to the side effects). However, he occasionally forgot to take his medication, and at age 18, during another break, he ended up killing his mother and very nearly killing his sister.

He fled the house once he regained some lucidity and found himself alone on the streets of Hong Kong, without his medication. However, eventually he managed to find a job that didn't mind his unreliability (janitor, to tell the truth) and a small apartment.

Nowadays he lives alone in his apartment, and occasionally, when he realizes the global conspiracy that he needs to tear apart once again, he goes to a little underground shop, buys a bomb, and commits a minor act of terrorism. Thanks to his power, which he hasn't even noticed he's using, he hasn't been caught yet.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Ryan basically has two different personalities that fight for dominance in his mind. His "good" personality is quite normal, and surfaces when he's actually taken his medication or on days where he has absolutely no reasons for alarm. When this personality is in control, he is quite the typical young male, though he is somewhat embittered by actions committed while under the control of the "bad" personality, and genuinely feels regret for the things he does. Despite this, however, he does manage to crack a smile now and then and it can even be said that he is somewhat happy with life and the state of things.

The other, "bad" personality, is the crazy one that dominates him most of the time. Typical of other paranoid schizophrenics, he hears and sees things that are actually not there, and this leads him to think that conspiracies are all around him. Ryan truly believes, when he is in this mode of mind, that everybody is out to get him and that everyone is being mind-controlled and brainwashed by mysterious forces in the world that are beyond his control. When like this, Ryan doesn't want to take his medication, thinking it's one of the mind-control tools. He doesn't want to go outside because he fears what's out there. It can be said that he really just wants to be invisible and disappear under the radar, away from everything, which is ironic, all things considered, but he lacks the courage and capacity to do even that.

What he seeks to do now is to "awaken" people to this thing he believes to be truth... by blowing up buildings (barriers) every so often. Thus he is fulfilling his duty as an Angel without even knowing it. Alex is the only person Ryan truly trusts, because he thinks Alex has been "awakened". While he loves his sister, Ophelia, Ryan doesn't trust her 100% as he believes her to be one of the brainwashed people.

A P P E A R A N C E

Ryan is a rather handsome young man, with pale skin and a build that's almost too thin. His hair is red-brown and falls around his face, although it tends to be slightly unwashed. His eyes are deep brown and large. He generally wears simple clothing, which tends to be a little on the tattered side, since clothing is a bit of a secondary concern for him.

He's constantly twitchy and pacing, thanks to a permanent sideeffect of the medication he took. If he can't walk around, he'll stomp his feet obsessively, and always walks if he can help it.
